Scaling team session

Before the session

Read Days 71, 72 and 80 (about five minutes each), or Module 8 on the cheat sheet.

The 30 minutes

1. 0–5 minOpen

   Quick round: one cross-team meeting you'd keep and one you'd merge.

2. 5–15 minDiscuss three days
   • Day 71: Scale last. Simplify first.Is our bottleneck really the number of people, or is work waiting on decisions and approvals?
   • Day 72: Short, focused, cross-team.What are we changing that other teams depend on, and how do they find out?
   • Day 80: Every quarter, remove something.Which meeting, report, approval or tool have we added in the last year, and what problem does it solve today?
3. 15–25 minExercise: Bureaucracy audit

   List every recurring meeting, report, approval and tool the team uses to coordinate with others. For each one, name the problem it solves today. Pick at least one to remove or merge.

4. 25–30 minAction for the week

   The team proposes removing or merging the item it picked to whoever owns it, and brings back the answer.

   Agree the team rule: “Add slowly. Remove regularly.”
